Your NEB grade sheet prints a credit hour for each subject. These defaults cover the usual combination — change any that differ from yours, and add or remove rows to match.

Credit hours vary between subjects, streams and schools, and your grade sheet is the authority on yours. If the GPA here differs from the printed one, the credit hours are almost always the reason.

The grading scale

Seven grades stepping down by 0.4, with NG below the 35 mark pass line. Before 2079 BS the lower bands were different, so an older grade sheet will not match this table.

The formula

GPA = Σ(credit hour × grade point) ÷ Σ(credit hours). Weighting matters: a five-credit subject moves the result more than a three-credit one, so a plain average of your grade points will not match the printed figure.

What NG really means

Not Graded, applied when the theory component falls below 35 marks however good the practical was. It scores zero but still occupies its credit hours, which is why a single NG hits the GPA so hard.

Frequently asked questions

How is NEB Class 12 GPA calculated?+

It is a credit-weighted average. Multiply each subject’s grade point by its credit hour, add all of those together, and divide by the total credit hours. Subjects are not weighted equally, so a five-credit major affects the result more than a four-credit compulsory subject.

How do theory and practical marks combine into one grade?+

Most NEB subjects weight the theory paper at 75% and the practical or internal assessment at 25%; Computer Science is commonly weighted 50/50. Your grade sheet already shows the combined grade for each subject, so enter that — there is no need to recombine the components yourself.

What does NG mean, and does it count in my GPA?+

NG means Not Graded, and it is applied when the theory component falls below the 35 mark pass line no matter how strong the practical result was. It counts as zero grade point in the GPA while still occupying its credit hours, which is why one NG pulls the whole figure down so sharply. This calculator shows both your GPA as it stands and what it would be once the NG subject is cleared.

Is Class 11 GPA included in the Class 12 result?+

They are reported as separate grade sheets, each with its own GPA. Institutions asking for your +2 result will often want both, and some combine them into an overall figure using their own method, so check what any particular college or employer is asking for.

Why is my GPA slightly different from the grade sheet?+

The credit hours are the usual cause. They differ by subject and by stream, and the combination you took may not match the defaults here. Every NEB grade sheet prints the credit hour next to each subject — set them to match yours and the numbers will agree exactly.
