Multiply each course’s grade point by its credit hours, add those products together, and divide by the total credit hours for the semester. A four-credit course therefore moves your GPA twice as much as a two-credit one. This is why dropping a heavy course, or doing badly in it, has an outsized effect.

SGPA is the grade point average for a single semester. CGPA is the average across every semester you have completed, weighted by credit hours rather than by semester — so a heavy semester pulls the CGPA more than a light one. Averaging your SGPAs together gives a different, and usually wrong, number.

Because Nepali universities differ from one another, and published descriptions of their scales contradict each other on the details — including pass thresholds and where particular letter grades sit.
