The grading scale
Seven grades stepping down by 0.4, with NG below the 35 mark pass line. Before 2079 BS the lower bands were different, so an older grade sheet will not match this table.

The formula
GPA = Σ(credit hour × grade point) ÷ Σ(credit hours). Weighting matters: a five-credit subject moves the result more than a three-credit one, so a plain average of your grade points will not match the printed figure.
What NG really means
Not Graded, applied when the theory component falls below 35 marks however good the practical was. It scores zero but still occupies its credit hours, which is why a single NG hits the GPA so hard.

Frequently asked questions
How is SEE GPA calculated?+
Each subject has a grade point and a credit hour. Multiply them together for every subject, add the results, and divide by the total credit hours. That means a five-credit subject such as Mathematics moves your GPA more than a three-credit optional does. A simple average of the grade points is not the same thing and will usually give you a slightly different number.
What is the highest GPA in SEE?+
4.0, awarded when every subject is graded A+, which requires 90 marks or above in each. Because the calculation is credit-weighted, a single lower grade in a heavy subject costs more than the same grade in a light one.
What does NG mean on my SEE grade sheet?+
NG stands for Not Graded. It appears when the theory result in a subject falls below the 35 mark pass line, and it applies regardless of how well the practical went. NG is not a low grade — the subject has not been cleared at all, it counts as zero in the GPA, and it usually has to be cleared before you can take admission.
What GPA do I need to study Science in Class 11?+
Requirements are set by each school and by the NEB rules in force for that intake, and they commonly also specify minimum grades in Mathematics and Science rather than the GPA alone. Check the published criteria for the colleges you are applying to rather than relying on a general figure.
Why does my calculated GPA differ slightly from my grade sheet?+
Almost always because the credit hours differ. Optional subjects in particular vary between schools. Your grade sheet prints the credit hour beside each subject, so set the values in this calculator to match it exactly and the two will agree.
